Introduction

Five major trends (Hollingsworth, 2005) continue to characterize the action research movement at

Mongolian National University of Education and are also observed worldwide: (a) emerging

prominence of action research in teacher education, professional development, and educational

reform; (b) ongoing development of conceptual frameworks and action research theories; (c)

interest in dissemination of action research; (d) development of sound critique of the action

research movement; and (e) transformative potential of action research on aspects of teacher

education within a university culture. Each of these trends can serve as the basis for future

research and connections to both national and global investigations in action research at MNUE.
